Torpor performing Abscission

We booked TORPOR to play their 2019 album, Rhetoric of the Image, for Roadburn 2020 – their suffocating take on sludge and doom crushed us completely. As is well documented, that edition of the festival never came to pass, but Torpor didn’t rest on their laurels. Carving out a bleaker still, yet more progressive, version of their sound earlier this year they released the incredible Abscission. This is a band that knows how to craft an album that deserves to be heard in its entirety… so we did the only thing that made sense and invited them to play the whole thing at Roadburn this coming April.

Of their upcoming performance, the band comments: “Roadburn has become a vital wellspring of inspiration and community for us over the years, and we are thrilled to present ‘Abscission’ in full at such a special festival. We’re looking forward to sharing the experience with you all!”

We’re expecting nothing less than to be thoroughly flattened by the might of this Bristol-based trio. Immerse yourself in Abscission and you’ll find gargantuan riffs, tightly wound atmosphere and a thoroughly oppressive expression of catharsis. Scattered throughout there are brief slivers of light, afforded by more ambient passages and spoken word interludes.  Prepare yourself for a truly special performance from one of the UK’s heaviest bands.
