Double-whammy of Cloud Rat shows set for Roadburn 2022

Grindcore weirdos Clout Rat are one of the most versatile—and most-often overlooked—bands in the world of extreme metal. Their 2019 album Pollinator landed with as much raw fury as one would expect: fast grind dressed with influences from other genres in a feral package. The surprise came from Pollinator’s sister EP, Do Not Let Me Off the Cliff

The seven-track release shows off what a hesher might call Cloud Rat’s soft side. Vocalist Madison Marshall’s snarl morphs into an ethereal, melodic singing voice accompanied by dreamy guitars and the steady pulse of synthesizers. The trio delved further into their electronic experimentations on last year’s Faster single and showed shades of it on 2021’s snarling Mother Tongue ~ Glitter Belly.

Cloud Rat’s versatility, as well as the excellence of their execution, makes them a vital band in today’s extreme metal underground. They’ll have the opportunity to showcase both sides of their sound when they perform two sets at Roadburn 2022—one focusing on their extreme metal catalogue and one featuring songs from Do Not Let Me Off the Cliff.

These performances are long overdue; Cloud Rat were due at Roadburn 2020 for a double dose as part of Emma Ruth Rundle’s curation. Their excitement is contagious and we can’t wait to finally host Cloud Rat in April 2022.

“We’re elated to be invited back to Roadburn, and thrilled to once more get the chance to showcase two different sides of this ever-morphing project,” they say.” It’s surreal after having the rug pulled out from under everyone and everything—finally getting back out there feels wild. I’m eagerly anticipating getting to hang with tons of good folks while watching a bunch of incredible artists do what they do; I’m hard-pressed to think of a more life-affirming situation. Thanks for having us!”
