Come prepared to be swept along in the swirling maelstrom of FACS at Roadburn 2020

FACS have been hand-picked by Emma Ruth Rundle to participate in her curated event at Roadburn, titled The Gilded Cage. The Chicago-based three piece will be bringing their minimal noise rock to Tilburg, and we’re over the moon about it.

Having released their debut album, Negative Houses, in March 2018, and followed it up a year later with their most recent LP, Lifelike, it may come as no surprise that this industrious trio are already working on their next opus. Perhaps we’ll be fortunate enough to witness some as-yet unreleased tracks live at Roadburn, but if not there’s rich pickings from what’s already out there in the world.

On her choice, Emma comments: “While FACS employ pulsating and minimalist, angular and almost post-punk/art rock sounds there is something very mid-western and modern about them. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this band, and each time my brain gets totally screwed up in trying to understand what’s going on – especially with the guitar playing. It’s like trying to interpret another language that you just can’t grasp, but also can’t turn away from. I always leave the show feeling confounded and inspired. Wondering what just happened, how it happened, and wishing I was able to play with such creativity. I love this band and find them incredibly enchanting and impressive.”

Whilst a huge part of the appeal of FACS is the space they create in their compositions, their languid sound is not offered at the expense of intensity. Come prepared to be swept along in the swirling maelstrom of FACS at full force.
