False adding a USBM spin to Emma Ruth Rundle curated Roadburn event, The Gilded Cage

False flourished in 2019 – with the release of their album Portent, the Minneapolis six-piece stepped out of the shadows a little. That’s not to say they suddenly became all sweetness and light – quite the opposite. Portent is a blistering slice of American black metal, but there was a little more soul seeping through the festering cracks this time out – albeit soul that is twisted and tortured. For sure an exercise in catharsis, False gave us plenty to ponder on last year. At the forefront for us, was figuring out how to get them over to Europe in April to perform at Roadburn 2020 – and we’re delighted to say we finally figured out a way to make it work.

False will be performing as part of Emma Ruth Rundle’s The Gilded Cage curated event – adding a USBM spin to proceedings. Of her choice, Emma comments:

“I will admit that I’m a newcomer to False, as of last year. I was on tour with Thou, performing the beginnings of our collaboration and warming up for Roadburn 2019. I believe False set up the show in St.Paul at Turf Club. I remember standing with the Thou crew watching from the side and being totally fucked up by it. Rachel was barefoot and walking around with this book and delivering a seriously inspired performance. All players were absolutely shredding. And what humble, cool people on top of it. The set sort of broke my mind. I found that it was hard to comprehend what I had just been witness to or how a band is able to make music that way and perform it with such intensity and precision. Then Portent dropped and yes, we knew we needed False at Roadburn.”

The band adds:
“We are beyond grateful to Emma for inviting us to be a part of her curation at Roadburn. She has done a fantastic job of picking acts that cover the gamut of what Heavy music is and can mean on a holistic level, and we’re excited to be a part of The Gilded Cage. We look forward to seeing so many other killer performances as Roadburn has always been an extraordinary festival, and this year is shaping up to be truly killer! We will see you soon, Tilburg.”

Prepare for things to get bleak; False are getting set to take us on a journey – and things may not be the same when we come out the other side.
