Karin Park opens the doors to the Church of Imagination

As we all know by now, Roadburn wasn’t able to exist in its usual form in 2021, so we went online and put together a programme of performances, premieres and more for Roadburners around the globe. A standout of Roadburn Redux was the collection of bands showcased under the banner of Pelagic Presents. The German label, helmed by The Ocean’s Robin Staps, has a roster jam-packed with talent – both established acts and must-see up-and-comers. As we worked towards our 2022 edition, we decided we would bring Pelagic Presents with us as we return to the physical realm.

Roadburn is thrilled to welcome Karin Park to Roadburn 2022, performing a solo set of her bewitching material. It’s not her first time at Roadburn, having also performed as part of Årabrot in 2018 – and we’re so looking forward to having her bring her fantastical sounds to life just for us. She will also perform as part of the ambitious Lustmord – Karin Park – Årabrot trio of sets taking place on Saturday night.

To know of Karin’s background is to be impressed; an award winning musician, actress and model who straddles the blurry line between accessibility and darkness. Her 2020 album, Church of Imagination, is a great place to start to familiarise yourself with her hypnotic, darkened dream pop. The album will see a re-issue through Pelagic Records, the label that now gives Karin’s music a home, and with whom we are presenting this very special label showcase.

Of her performance, Karin commented: “Everywhere I go I always feel like I don’t really fit in. But weirdly, Roadburn has  a unique vibe that makes me feel like I belong there. That makes me want to give something unforgettable back to both the festival and the audience. Proud to be a part of it this year .”

For Roadburn, Karin will be transforming Roadburn into a satellite branch of her homegrown Church of Imagination, and invites us all to be part of the congregation.
