Kungens Män will take their outbound delights of psych-infused progressivism to Roadburn 2020.

Cosmic travellers assemble! We’ll have lift-off on Sunday, 19 April, when Stockholm’s Kungens Män take their outbound delights of psych-infused progressivism to the stage. Completely unfiltered and without safety nets, the band crafts otherworldly textures through a meld of organic instrumental flow, and waves of hugely captivating guitar along with ambient synth. It’s Kungens Män’s improvisational approach that recalls both the hypnotic and meditative wanderings of psychedelia, but the band is also effortlessly moving through krautrock, shoegaze, noiserock and free jazz territory on albums such as Förnekaren, Fuzz På Svenska, as well as Chef and Hårt Som Ben, their two 2019 outings for Riot Season.

Always exploring the outer limits on stage, Kungens Män’s Roadburn debut is shaping up to be an extraordinary passage in space and time. “It’s hard to describe how much it means to us to get the chance to play at the festival”, says the band. “We’ve actually had reports that certain band members started crying when Walter reached out to us… The thing is that the seed of Kungens Män was sown at Roadburn 10 years ago when all the four founding members went there together to just hang out, listen to great music, chill in parks and whatnot.”

“The point is, if it wasn’t for Roadburn, all these very different people would probably not have had the idea of starting playing together,” they continue. “And musically, Roadburn has been a constant reference point for the band, in attitude and sound. It’s given us insight to the extraordinary worlds you can build inside with the right circumstances – sound wise, and the setting of it all. Roadburn is simply just classy stuff.”

Do you have your homemade spacecrafts ready? We at Roadburn HQ are definitely preparing to fly on Sunday, 19 April – and we couldn’t wish for better captains than Kungens Män.
