Maggot Heart will bring primal post-punk vibes and gritty rock’n’roll swagger to Roadburn Redux

Maggot Heart is the brainchild of Swedish guitarist Linnéa Olsson, who you may recognise from her days of playing in The Oath and Grave Pleasures / Beastmilk. She formed Maggot Heart in 2017, taking to the mic and expressing her own creative vision through primal post-punk vibes and gritty rock’n’roll swagger, capturing the raw underbelly of the band’s adopted city of Berlin.

Maggot Heart made their Roadburn debut back in 2018, and despite only having one EP, 2017’s City Girls, to their name at the time, they drew in the masses who were eager to see what Olsson’s exciting new project had in store. Maggot Heart didn’t disappoint – getting the packed-out Green Room grooving to their raucous late-night show.

Since then, Maggot Heart have toured with bands like Earthless and Voivod and released two full-length albums, most recently 2020’s Mercy Machine – a jagged gut-punch of noise rock fury cut through with dark melodies that explores themes of sex, death and the pursuit of freedom. It’s Mercy Machine that will provide the material for their Roadburn Redux set, filmed at Urban Spree in Berlin; we can’t wait to welcome Maggot Heart – including Uno Bruniusson on drums (ex-In Solitude etc) and Olivia Airey on bass completing the line up – back to Roadburn in this digital format.

Linnéa comments “We haven’t been on stage since our last US tour in October 2019, and we’ve been dying to play the songs off ‘Mercy Machine’ live. It’s an honour to finally be able to present a few of these tracks at Roadburn Redux, in a setting that speaks of who we are as a band. We’ll channel everything we’ve got – tune in and turn on.”

Maggot Heart will perform as part of Roadburn Redux between April 16-18.
