Mizmor will perform Cairn in full at Roadburn 2020 as part of Emma Ruth Rundle's curated event, The Guilded Cage

Mizmor’s latest album, Cairn, is a mesmerising piece of work. Back in 2016, we were bowled over by YodhMizmor’s previous offering – and we invited multi-instrumentalist, A.L.N, to bring his project to the Roadburn stage in 2018. The set proved to be a defining element of Roadburn that year for all who witnessed it. Cairn is a continuation of Yodh – yet somehow more personal, more intense and more captivating. It’s not necessarily an easy journey, but it’s one we went on willingly.

The latest exploratory chapter in a truly soul-searching body of work, Cairn continues to dig into themes of faith, understanding, and personal enlightenment. Spiralling out from a solid base of black metal, Mizmor also incorporates elements of doom metal, ambient, shoegaze and more to create an enticing blackened mix that forms something almost cinematic in scope and depth.

As one of the first names mentioned by Emma Ruth Rundle for her curation, it was clear that Emma had a deep connection to the music of Mizmor, and a great friendship with its creator. If you missed it, you can read an interview that Emma conducted with A.L.N here that delves into the themes on the album and broader influences on both musician’s lives – it’s a captivating piece that is a testament to their bond, and the music that they create.

Emma comments: “If you’ve heard the latest album from Mizmor, Cairn, you’ll understand why it should be presented in full at the festival. Mizmor will be returning to deliver this intricate existential journey through the self via a sound described as wholly doomed black metal. If you’ve been following either of us you’ll know that we are also friends – this was a very important one for my curation.”

So, it is with enormous pleasure that we announce Mizmor’s return to Roadburn – this time as part of Emma Ruth Rundle’s The Gilded Cage curation. They will perform Cairn in full at Roadburn 2020.
