New Age Doom is an exciting prospect for us on their own, but combined with the Norwegian musician Tuva Hellum Marschhäuser AKA Tuvaband – it’s an irresistible proposition. We’re thrilled to invite these three musicians to Roadburn for a special performance this coming April.
For those unfamiliar, New Age Doom are a Canadian duo who are the embodiment of “genre-mashup”; they fuse jazz, drone and psych in an exciting and forward thinking way. Whilst they craft a sound that is uniquely theirs, they are not an inward looking band – far from it. They are always reaching outwards, across genres and across boundaries (their collaboration with Lee Scratch Perry is a good example of this), so it’s no surprise that the spirit of cooperation led them towards Tuvaband. The resulting album, There Is No End, is a psychedelic trip of meticulously layered sounds that provide quite the transcendent journey!
Tuva herself is a renowned Norwegian musician that floats in a space above cinematic shoegaze, and has forged her own distinctive path. Whilst the two entities involved in this collaboration don’t seem to have much in common on paper, it is in the studio where their common ground becomes obvious as they embark on a propulsive and enigmatic voyage together – showcasing each of their sparkling skillsets and forging a new path forwards. Their electrifying expedition will soon bring them to Tilburg – and we can’t wait to welcome them to Roadburn!
