Primitive Man guide us into the darkness at Roadburn 2022

There’s a good chance that you’ve been underestimating Primitive Man all these years. Sure, we all know that they’re one of the heaviest bands out there. Yes, we know that they’ll make the floor shake beneath your feet if you’re fortunate enough to catch them in a small venue. But credit where credit is due, the emotional heft that comes with their discordant barrage cannot – and should not – be underestimated. Primitive Man remains a suffocating prospect – their hellish soundscapes being just capacious enough to allow the listener’s own neuroses to seep into and distort the experience. And it’s for these reality-altering abilities that we’re delighted to welcome them back to Roadburn.

The band comment: “Here we are, almost two years later, continuing to wade through the darkness that continues to keep its icy hands on humanity’s throat. I can only hope that the dread and uncertainty end in time for us to not only hug all of you at the most prestigious festival – Roadburn –  in 2022 but to also destroy each and every one of you with crushing, dismal & oppressive sounds.”

Many of us have sought out musical companionship throughout our lives; seeking the audio accompaniment to life’s highs and lows, providing a soundtrack to our personal experiences. The task became more complex over the past 18 months or so – lean too far one way and mood-boosting optimism becomes cloying, lean too far the other and the void will threaten to consume you whole. Primitive Man is the connoisseur’s choice for the latter scenario. If you’ve erred on the side of caution throughout all that living through a pandemic has thrown in your path, then Roadburn might be a good time to give yourself over to the darkness.
