Russian Circles will return to Roadburn for the third time in 2020

Russian Circles have been a part of our world and emitting a consistently high level of output for so long now that we were pretty certain we already knew what to expect when we heard there was a new album coming in 2019. More fool us, it turns out, as here was a band that refused to rest on its laurels, and pushed their boundaries even further than anticipated.

The first hint of what was to come was the single, Arluck, bundling its way into our lives back in May and paving the way for the absolutely spellbinding album Blood Year. Arguably more aggressive and direct than previous output, Blood Year is a collection of instrumental missives, wordless poems, and complex chronicles of the lives of its creators.

It seems we have inadvertently set a five year pattern, and we’re thrilled to announce that bang on time, Russian Circles will return to Roadburn for the third time in 2020. If you, too, think you already know what to expect then we respectfully urge you to reconsider. It’s all too easy to take for granted what we consider to be the familiar – and Russian Circles are definitely, and defiantly, a band that is not to be underestimated.

The band comment: “We’re happy to be invited back for a third performance at Roadburn. Not only is it an honor to be a part of such a meticulously curated festival, it’s a personal affirmation of the power of art and music, as seen in the bonding of artists and fans from all across the globe in the immersive experience of this special annual event.”

Russian Circles will perform on the main stage at Roadburn 2020 on Thursday, 16 April.
