presents Machine
This year, Kevin Martin AKA The Bug signed to Relapse and released Machine – drawn from a collection of EPs that together form a crushing, sonically obliterating whole. It is this hulking double album – that straddles electronics, dub and industrial metal – which will form the backbone of his upcoming Roadburn appearance. We’re thrilled to welcome The Bug back to Roadburn, this time on the main stage.
The very beginnings of Kevin’s explorations in sound shine through on Machine; back in the 90s he was a champion of experimental genre fusion, embraced notably on his work with Justin Broadrick as Techno Animal amongst other sonic adventures. With his decades of experience navigating the underbelly of heaviness across multiple genres, Kevin has gathered together a veritable arsenal of audio weaponry to bring his most futuristic and expansive dystopian sounds to life.
“I am absolutely flattered to be invited back to the festival that consistently redefines heaviness musically… To be playing the mainstage at Roadburn solo, is a daunting pleasure. But I am absolutely psyched to bring the sonic filth and perform a MACHINE specific set for the first time at its most extreme. Walter and Becky do an incredible job, and I never take any invite for granted, in fact it’s an honour to play one of my favourite festivals in Europe, where musical intensity, collective energy and attention to detail are all top priority. A pleasure to bring the bass, dirt and noise!”
With the main stage as his canvas and Machine as his palette, we can be sure that The Bug is going to deliver something unforgettable.
