Torche will make their Roadburn debut in 2020 as part of Emma Ruth Rundle's curated event, The Gilded Cage

It almost defies logic that Torche are yet to set foot on a Roadburn stage; occasionally even we have to remind ourselves that the band is yet to play – it seems like such an obvious pairing, but it’s one that has somehow so far eluded us. Fortunately the stars have aligned, under the watchful eye of Emma Ruth Rundle, and we’re thrilled to announce that Torche will make their Roadburn debut in 2020.

Given their omnipresent nature they barely require us to make an attempt at an introduction, but attempt we shall. If you’re one of the few who are still unacquainted with this unholy quartet, then we strongly suggest we start with their latest release, Admission, and work backwards.

As you traverse through the five studio albums and a smattering of splits and EPs you’ll encounter a variety of genres, and nods to dozens of musical influences here and there. Just when we think that an all encompassing ‘heavy metal’ is the best descriptor, out of nowhere a hook so pop-laden and drenched in melody will pop up that it sends all attempts at categorisation once again spinning wildly out of control.
Therefore, if you’ve ever given more than a passing glance to 70’s hard rock, sludge, shoegaze, or noise rock, or perhaps even if you’re just in the market for a sense of euphoric joy to be delivered directly to your eardrums – then Torche are worth more than a minute of your time.

Long-time fan, Emma Ruth Rundle explains her pick: “Torche have long topped my favorite current bands list, with Meanderthal still being a record I reach for while driving on tour. The energy and weight of the riffs are always exciting and I can’t wait to see them perform cuts from their awesome new album, Admission.”

Torche will perform at Roadburn 2020 as part of Emma Ruth Rundle’s curated event, The Gilded Cage.
