performing Boezem
It is well documented by now that we’re immensely proud of the wealth of talent that springs from the Dutch underground. We are enthusiastic about celebrating the successes and achievements of our home-grown musicians; these bands are woven into the Roadburn DNA. One band that we’re thrilled to champion this year is Vuur & Zijde who will be joining us to perform their debut album in full at the festival.
Featuring members of Laster, Silver Knife, Grey Aura, Terzij de Horde and Witte Wieven (phew!), their pedigree speaks for itself. The sound of Vuur & Zijde (translation: Fire & Silk) is underpinned by the black metal chops you would expect from such a line up, but here they incorporate other elements to soften the sharp edges, invoking a post-punk dream-like vibe. That they cite Dead Can Dance and Cocteau Twins as influences should give you a clue as to the path they’re seeking to follow.
Their debut album was released this summer via Prophecy Productions to broad critical acclaim. The album title, Boezem, translates to mean bosom in English, which is indicative of the subject matter: primarily love, and more specifically motherhood and unconditional love. Bucking conventions of metal in both their sound and subject matter, Vuur & Zijde are writing their own script rather than following the lead of others. This show at Roadburn will be their live debut, with future shows expected to be a rare occurrence – don’t let this opportunity pass you by.
Of their upcoming Roadburn performance, the band tells us:
“We’re excited to perform our debut album, Boezem, in its entirety at Roadburn. This festival has been a welcoming haven for our members’ musical journeys over the past decade, and we’re truly grateful for that support. Join us as we celebrate this special moment, embracing the music, intimacy, and hardships that continue to put us in motion.”
Let us unite in welcoming Vuur & Zijde to Roadburn.
