NS16
NS16 is een atelier-complex voor cultureel ondernemers in het hart van Tilburg, waar kunstenaars en vormgevers met een grote diversiteit aan disciplines onder één koepel hun beroep uitoefenen.
Als onderdeel van OFFROAD zal Fedrik Vaessen zijn werk in NS16 exposeren. Hij beschouwt zijn werken als organismen die baden in vloeistoffen, verweven met de door de mens gemaakte wereld. Wezens en objecten bewegen door een ambiguë omgeving, ze opereren samen en vormen een vreemde mix van het organische en het mechanische. Binnen deze beelden vindt hij elementen die hij extraheren en gebruiken in zijn werk.
Op zoek naar ‘gevonden objecten’ om ze te ontdoen van hun functionaliteit, vormt hij ze vervolgens om tot een nieuwe archetypische en culturele bestaan. Hij voedt zijn werken en op een bepaald moment beginnen deze entiteiten zichzelf te voeden. Je kunt sporen in hen vinden die suggereren wat ze ooit waren of wat ze in de toekomst zouden kunnen worden.
Het assemblageproces bestaat uit vele stoffen, zoals machineonderdelen, hoorns, mystieke ornamenten, leidingen en wasachtige materie. Hij vindt nieuwe buitenaardse vormen door te schetsen en te spelen met materialen. Deze verkenningen worden samengevoegd tot functioneel onbekende sculpturen met symbolische en sciencefiction ondertonen. Hiermee roept hij vragen op in een wereld waarin we alles willen controleren en denken dat we alles kunnen verklaren.

NS16 is a studio complex for cultural entrepreneurs in the heart of Tilburg, where artists and designers with a wide variety of disciplines practice their profession under one roof.
As part of OFFROAD, Fedrik Vaessen will exhibit his work at NS16. He considers his works as organisms bathing in fluids, intertwined with the human-made world. Beings and objects move through an ambiguous environment, operating together and forming a strange blend of the organic and the mechanical. Within these images, he finds elements to extract and use in his work.
In search of ‘found objects’ to strip them of their functionality, he then transforms them into a new archetypal and cultural existence. He nourishes his works, and at some point, these entities begin to nourish themselves. You can find traces in them that suggest what they once were or what they could become in the future.
The assembly process consists of many substances, such as machine components, horns, mystical ornaments, conduits, and wax-like matter. He discovers new otherworldly forms through sketching and playing with materials. These explorations are fused into functionally unknown sculptures with symbolic and science fiction undertones. In doing so, he raises questions in a world where we want to control everything and think we can explain everything.
