Twee bijzondere sessies bij Feniks – zaterdag 19 april
Op zaterdag 19 april organiseert Feniks twee inspirerende sessies in het kader van Roadburn, waarin veiligheid, identiteit en inclusiviteit centraal staan. Iedereen is welkom om mee te denken, te luisteren en bij te dragen aan een meer veilige en vrije gemeenschap – binnen én buiten de muziekwereld.
De dag start om 12:00 uur met de Workshop Bystander Intervention. Wat doe je als je grensoverschrijdend gedrag ziet gebeuren? In deze interactieve sessie leer je hoe je kunt ingrijpen op een veilige en effectieve manier. De workshop begint met een korte introductie over gendernormen en hoe deze bijdragen aan ongelijke machtsverhoudingen en geweld. Daarna ga je aan de slag met praktische strategieën om in te grijpen als omstander. De workshop wordt verzorgd door Feniks, het emancipatie expertise centrum van Tilburg.
Om 14:00 uur volgt het programma Becoming who you are in metal: Creating a safe space together. Muzikant Kim Hoorweg (VULVA, Vulvaverse) vertelt over Kims persoonlijke reis van succesvolle jazzartiest naar een meer vrije, creatieve en authentieke expressie in de metalwereld. Hoe vond Kim deze nieuwe vorm van zelfexpressie, welke uitdagingen kwamen op het pad, en welke mensen inspireerden onderweg? Onder leiding van Veerle Slegers (directeur van Feniks) gaan we met elkaar in gesprek over hoe we samen veilige ruimtes kunnen creëren waarin iedereen zichzelf mag zijn.

On Saturday, April 19, Feniks hosts two powerful sessions as part of Roadburn, inviting you to explore what it means to create safe, inclusive spaces—both in the world of heavy music and beyond. Whether you come to learn, share, or reflect, these sessions offer a space for connection and change.
The day begins at 12:00 PM with a Workshop Bystander Intervention. What can you do when you witness inappropriate or harmful behavior? In this interactive session, you’ll learn how to step in safely and effectively. The workshop starts with an introduction to gender norms and how they shape power structures and violence, followed by practical strategies for intervening as a bystander. The session is led by Feniks, the emancipation expertise center based in Tilburg.
At 2:00 PM, join us for Becoming who you are in metal: Creating a safe space together. Musician Kim Hoorweg (VULVA, Vulvaverse) shares Kim’s personal journey from the world of mainstream jazz to a more free, creative, and authentic expression in metal. What challenges did Kim face along the way? Who were the guiding lights? And how can we, as individuals and as a community, create spaces where everyone feels safe to be themselves? The conversation will be moderated by Veerle Slegers, director of Feniks, and audience participation is warmly encouraged.
