Cinder Well first made it on to our radar thanks to a recommendation from 40 Watt Sun’s Patrick Walker. Presumably he was as charmed as we were by this contemporary and fresh take on experimental folk. Cinder Well is the brainchild of Amelia Baker who evokes both the oceanic vistas of the Californian coast and the windswept, cinematic scenery of Ireland through her beautiful music. She will be bringing her transatlantic melodies to Tilburg for a performance at the upcoming edition of Roadburn – and we can’t wait to see these songs brought to life.

Honing her craft in the DIY punk scene in California, Amelia’s musical explorations saw her travel to Ireland where she learned more about traditional folk balladry which seeped naturally  into her work. Through the music that she now releases as Cinder Well, she explores folklore and her own place in the modern world. The tracks on her latest album, Cadence, are airy and expansive, rolling in like a misty cloud off the coast. The minimal arrangements that accompany her lilting voice are thoughtful and deliberate, patient and considered.

Amelia told us: “I’ve only been to Roadburn once – I busked outside between venues. It’s a dream to finally be *officially* playing this legendary festival.”

It will be such a treat to immerse ourselves in the depths of Cinder Well; don’t miss this one.
