performing Something To Lose

Our final commissioned project for 2025 will see two Dutch powerhouses of the underground unite on stage this coming April. Throwing Bricks and Ontaard may be on your radar already, but if not, that should all change in just a few short months when they show off exactly what makes the Dutch heavy music scene such a vibrant and vital portal to burgeoning creativity.

Throwing Bricks left a dent on Roadburn last year with their electrifying blend of punk, black metal, screamo and sludge, meanwhile Ontaard snuck in with a secret show which showed off their post-metal prowess. These two shining lights of the Utrecht scene will spearhead a new project comprising original material that will be premiered at Roadburn.

Recruiting some friends to assist with their unholy alchemy, the collaboration promises “ravey beats, black and post-metal, dreamy ambient, screamo, noise, soul crushing vocals and way more” as they have sought to represent the diverse elements that make up their beloved scene. Being offered the opportunity to spread their wings, collaborate and develop something new to be premiered on a big stage added an element of risk to their artistry. All of a sudden, they felt like they said something to lose, hence the title of the piece.

They explain: “With these long standing friendships we see crossroads in many aspects of our lives: work turns into a career, falling in love turns into marriage and being in a band can even turn into a job. All changes that feel both exhilarating and overwhelming. With every opportunity to gain, also comes the fear to lose.”

With ‘Something To Lose’ Ontaard and Throwing Bricks dove even deeper into their own creative scene and the collaborative nature of both bands. Their music has always been about shifting dynamics without restrictions, contrasting between hope and hopelessness. After both playing their own shows at Roadburn 2024, the bands are back this year with a slew of guest musicians. Join this cathartic and once in a lifetime premiere at Roadburn 2025.
