Planning For Burial is the name under which Thom Wasluck creates and releases music. He joined us at Roadburn back in 2018, and a little later that year was handpicked to play Meltdown Festival curated by Robert Smith. Not saying Robert copied us, but you never know. To celebrate the release of Planning For Burial’s latest album, It’s Closeness, It’s Easy, we have invited him to return to Roadburn this coming April. Your move Robert…
Back then, Below The House was his latest record – one that has stood the test of time, in our opinion. Standing the test of time is somewhat what the latest album focuses on; even when life weighs heavy on his shoulders, Thom Wasluck is still standing, even sometimes, occasionally, in a peaceful pool of light. Thematically heavy, yes, but also sonically so – distorted fuzz and doomy missives are splintered with iridescent shimmers of shoegazesque melody.
Thom will play two sets at Roadburn this year – one ‘regular’ set, where we can expect to hear material from his full length albums, and one more experimental set which leans towards improvised drone and ambient sounds.
Thom comments: “For years and years and years Roadburn, from a fans perspective, has always been thee festival for me. Their curation for me has always been a step above the rest. So when I was originally asked to perform many moons ago it was beyond any of my wildest dreams. I can’t wait to come back and experience some of my favorite artists, see some familiar faces and meet/hear some new ones.”
We’re looking forward to welcoming Thom back to Roadburn; a foray into Europe is a rare thing and we consider ourselves spoiled to have the pleasure of his performance twice.
