If you realised you had all but one member of quietly influential, dark Americana band Pygmy Lush at your festival already, what would you do next? Well, in our case what we did was ask them very nicely if they’d like to play a set and arrange to fly in one more person. It seemed like the obvious thing to do. And so, it is with great delight that we’re announcing the first Pygmy Lush show on European soil.
They tell us:
“This will be Pygmy Lush’s first time in Europe and we can’t believe we get to do it with Roadburn of all people. Many years ago we tried to get out there but it just ended up falling apart. This is a long time coming and hopefully it will lead to more. This is an absolute honor for all of us.”
A few spins of their 2011 album Old Friends will highlight why Pygmy Lush are a perfect addition to Roadburn. At turns understated and deeply emotional, Old Friends is Pygmy Lush at their brooding best. This set will be the perfect gentle lull in the midst of an frantic Friday at Roadburn – and before the majority of the band take to the stage with pageninetynine the following day. If this underrated band has passed you by previously, now is the time to go rummaging back through the archives and embrace them.
