SEÁN MULROONEY may be a somewhat familiar face to regular Roadburn attendees; he joined us a couple of years ago with his full band, Tau and the Drones of Praise, but for 2024 he will be presenting his stripped down solo material – fresh out of the studio no less.

In his own words, Seán has been propelled forward in his solo work by a broken heart and a courageous anti war song (released in December in response to the ongoing conflict in Palestine). That propulsion sees him currently working on a full album of solo material in France with his long term collaborator, Earl Harvin of Tindersticks.

We’ll be the lucky witnesses to the live debut of some of this material when Seán takes to the stage for a solo performance at Roadburn this April. On what to expect from this newly unfurling creative seam, Seán tells us “There’s this burning desire in me to make this record quick, a response to creation, a creative response, dreamy folky, dirgy, epic and deeply personal songs and soundscapes which  come straight from the gut. What I do sounds quite different to the current zeitgeist of Irish music, but I feel its coming from the same source.”
