Hail Spirit Noir will bring their maniacal take on psychedelic black metal to Roadburn 2018

If Roadburn’s legacy is one of artists in fringe communities pushing their fringes even further, then few artists are as overdue for an appearance as Greek black metal heretics Hail Spirit Noir. This band’s reputation since their 2012 debut, Pneuma, has been that of the shapeshifting trickster, with a spin on psychedelic and experimental black metal that would leave even some of the more “progressive” artists scratching their heads in wonder and bafflement.

The twists and turns of both subsequent releases, Oi Magoi and Mayhem in Blue have kept fans on their toes and heads nodding with delight. The band’s capacity to make the surreal elements fuse with the rollicking, groovy black’n’roll in perfect harmony showcases a command of atmosphere that is unparalleled. Whether in moments of pure ferocity or bizarrely structured ambiance, we expect to be in a state of beautiful uncertainty for the duration of Hail Spirit Noir’s well deserved Roadburn debut.

Hail Spirit Noir will bring their maniacal take on psychedelic black metal to the 013 Venue on Sunday, April 23 to add a healthy dose of weirdness to the final day of Roadburn 2018.

Ben Handelman / December 2017
