There’s a few bands we’ve announced for Roadburn this year alongside “trust us, we promise it will be good” type statements about their impending albums. Well, here’s another one: Portrayal of Guilt will be playing Roadburn 2026 and they’ll have a new album out next year and it’s amazing. We wish we could tell you more about it, but it’s not our place to do so – you’ll have to wait a little longer but it honestly, truly will be worth it.
If you caught Texas’s Portrayal of Guilt on their recent tour with Deafheaven, you’ll know that they’re on fire lately. Throw in the incendiary fuel of this new material and you’ve pretty much cooked up the perfect recipe for a Roadburn return. More than capable of ticking the right boxes for those amongst us who just want to bang heads to heavy music and get high on annihilation, Portrayal of Guilt have much more to offer for those who want to peel back the layers. There amongst the grit and grime you’ll find samples, glitches, discordant melody, break-neck changes of direction, and little flourishes that leave you second guessing your own ears. All this to say, Portrayal Of Guilt can and will defy your expectations.
Of their return, they comment: “We’re honored to have the opportunity to come back to the Netherlands and play Roadburn for a second time. No one does it better.” Keep an eye out for announcements about this new material, and until then, get amped up for the trio’s return to the Roadburn stage. We’re thrilled to have them back again.
