Iron Lung is a band, a record label, and, arguably, a way of life. The Reno-based duo Jensen Ward and Jon Kortland have built a world around them – even expanding into their own festival last year – and in their own words: we know what we like and what we don’t like. That ethos is evident throughout their output as a band and a record label championing all flavours of punk. As for Iron Lung the band, their unmistakable, unstoppable vitriol is laced throughout the last near two decades of DIY activities.
You need only give a cursory listen to last year’s Adapting//Crawling release to know that the duo have plenty to get off their chests. Using powerviolence as their uncompromising method of delivery, Iron Lung are incendiary as they swipe at the crumbling detritus of a failing society incapable of supporting its citizens. The insidious rot – the effects of which were on full display during the height of the recent pandemic – gives Iron Lung ample ammunition, a neverending well of personal and societal ills to draw from.
Iron Lung are less a breath of fresh air, and more a furious gasp from underneath the oppressive weight of modern life. They will make their Roadburn debut in April 2027
