You may have to poke around online a little to find her music (her latest releases aren’t on streaming services) but the journey to find Ghent-based ANNELIES MONSERÉ’s output is well worth the effort. Her minimalist approach to experimental folk and drone captured our imaginations and we immediately invited her to join us at Roadburn 2024.

With two decades of experience to her name, Annelies has developed a distinctive sound which unspools at its own glorious pace. Although her compositions are meticulously crafted, they also allow room for emotive and raw expression to shine though.  Whilst her earlier works lean heavily towards sparse instrumental passages, her later work is imbued with a richer palette of sound – such as on her 2023 release, Mares. With more new music due to arrive in 2024, we have every expectation that Annelies will reach more and more willing ears with her offerings in the months to come.

Of her upcoming appearance at Roadburn, Annelies comments: “The invitation to the Roadburn-festival made my heart jump. Besides the fact that I consider the Netherlands as my second home, I’m also delighted to be part of a festival that consistently pushes  boundaries of genres and is famous for its wonderful and attentive audience. All bands perform their best shows at Roadburn and I aim to do the same.”
