We’re not claiming to be astrologers, alchemical soothsayers or crystal ball experts but when we first heard Chat Pile, we knew we’d stumbled upon something special. We did what any sensible underground festival would do, and we booked them at the earliest opportunity. Roadburn 2023 marked Chat Pile’s first foray into Europe, and what a treat it was! They have ventured back over here for a handful of shows since, each time cultivating a bigger and more rabid European audience.
Upon hearing their upcoming new album, Cool World, we had that same gurgling gut feeling that something special was rumbling our way and we’d be foolish to ignore it. So without hesitation we reached out and secured Chat Pile for Roadburn 2025. This will be their first show back in Europe following the release of Cool World so we can no doubt expect to hear plenty of new material alongside what have become staple favourites among Roadburners.
If you haven’t yet caught on to the astronomical rise of Chat Pile in the last few years then it’s not too late to get the full run down in preparation for next April. Describing themselves as a “pop culture trash compactor”, they mangle up their cultural reference points with the horror of modern day civilisation and spew it out in the form of sludgy noise rock. On Cool World they have expanded their sonic boundaries further still, embracing more groove, more dirge and more righteous, fist-pumping adrenaline drops. Once you’ve got your head around Cool World, you’ll see why we didn’t hold back with this booking.
Of their return to Roadburn, bassist Stin commented:
“The sense of community and overwhelming enthusiasm of those in attendance made our last Roadburn appearance one of the most meaningful and memorable performances of our career. We’ve been dying to come back not only as performers, but as fans of adventurous and eclectic music. We’re all looking forward to what the fest has up its sleeve this year!”
Join us in welcoming Chat Pile back to Roadburn – their home away from home – pull up a chair, get comfy ‘cos things are about to get weird.
