Bringing a ‘bedroom black metal’ project out of the confines of the Pittsburgh bedroom which it was first realised, all the way over to Europe to play their first shows outside of North America, well… that’s the sort of thing we live for here at Roadburn. So it is with great pleasure that we’re announcing Genital Shame will perform at Roadburn this April.
The brainchild of Erin Dawson, Genital Shame festered and bloomed in solitude – as much great introspective black metal does. However, this self-described transwoman black metal project is brought to fruition on stage with additional musicians in the shape of Chicago’s Stander. For those of you yet to spend time with Genital Shame’s debut full length, Chronic Illness Wish, then buckle up!
Woozy fuzz and acoustic passages temper the icy cold core of the transcendent black metal riffs and squalling vocals. There is angular aggression working in harmony with melodic overtones, and the impact is simply fantastic. We’ve counted ourselves among Erin Dawson’s fanclub for a year or so now, but there’s plenty of room for new members.
Of Genital Shame’s first voyage to this side of the pond, Erin tells us:
“We’re beyond honored to play Roadburn. This full-band iteration of Genital Shame features members of Stander, which means we’ll be playing a fast, wall-of-sound set for our first time in Europe.”
