Over the years Roadburn has cultivated and supported a rich seam of artists that exude power through a more subtle kind of energy. Think of those shows that leave you spellbound, moved by their shimmering intensity. The next band that we anticipate having such an effect on us is the home-grown, Dutch band HABITANTS.
Formed by The Gathering’s guitarists René Rutten, Habitants features the ethereal vocals of Anne van den Hoogen. The pair are joined by guitarist Gema Pérez, bassist Mirte Heutmekers and drummer Jerôme Miedendorp de Bie, creating gently swirling melodies and an immersive, atmospheric sound. Their debut album was released in 2018, but with a new record – titled Alma – on its way imminently we can expect to see much more of Habitants in the months to come.
Of their upcoming Roadburn performance, they tell us:
“We have admired Roadburn for many years, and its commitment to musical authenticity makes it a truly unique festival. Emblematic female artists of this festival, such as Emma Ruth Rundle and Chelsea Wolfe, have significantly inspired our music. This is why we are tremendously honored and excited to play at Roadburn this year. We can’t wait to share our new music with you all!”
Prepare to be swept away by the tender tide of Habitants.
