For the uninitiated LKVGT is pronounced ‘lijkvogt’, for the non-Dutch among us, that can be translated as ‘corpse’, which gives you an approximation of how this emerging death metal band is setting the tone. For further elaboration on this, look no further than their debut album, Manische Omarming Van Een Alomvattend Niets – which for fellow fans of Google Translate means Manic Embrace Of An All-Encompassing Nothingness. This album has been making sure and steady waves in the underground – both in The Netherlands and further afield. As they slithered onto our radar, we knew we had to have them at Roadburn – and so it shall be this April.

At the time of writing, LKVGT are yet to play a live show – perhaps that will change before Easter rolls around, or perhaps we will be spoiled with the first live manifestation of this most sacrilegious metal.  Either way, having sequestered themselves in the noxious underbelly of The Hague to hone their craft, they are preparing to emerge into the light, both embracing and defying the accepted parameters of death metal as we know it in one fell swoop.

Of their upcoming show at Roadburn, the band tells us: “After years of practice in a small and smelly bunker, we are delighted to finally bring the filth to the masses. We cannot think of a better place to do this than at Roadburn. This festival has always paved the way for new authentic bands and we’re more than honoured to have given this opportunity. However, the thing we look forward to the most is to wander the festival discovering new acts. And we aim to spark that same exhilaration to the audience.”

As always, we remain on the lookout for stand-out bands, those who carve their own niche, those that don’t fit into a neat little box and are all the more exciting for it. With LKVGT we have found such a gem – and we can’t wait to share this one with you.
