If you have witnessed Duma live previously – perhaps even at a previous edition of Roadburn – you will be more than aware of the mightily monikered LORD SPIKEHEART. Also known as Martin Kanja, he has stalked the stages of Tilburg before, as the formidable frontman with Duma, but now he’s branching out on his own. We’re thrilled to welcome him back to Roadburn to present his solo work as he marks the release of his debut album, The Adept.

For his part in all this, it seems he is as delighted as we are, saying: “Absolutely excited to come back to Roadburn Festival, this time as Lord Spikeheart, and to premiere my debut solo album in front of one of my favourite audiences and mosh playgrounds. Major Hails to Walter, Becky and the whole Roadburn team for blessing this new project. See you in the pits.”

Picking up where he left off with Duma, Lord Spikeheart’s material is a frenetic blend of industrial sounds, mind-bending beats and hard trance. Even on record, his vocal delivery – in Kikuyu, Kiswahili, and English – conjures up yet another layer of concussive sonic obliteration, so we’re bracing ourselves for the up close and personal iteration of these tracks.

The next chapter in the evolution of Lord Spikeheart is being written – right here, right now – don’t snooze on this one.
