Milkweed is a duo based in the UK who explore the undulating terrain of experimental folk. They do so with a fuzzy cloak of semi-anonymity shrouding them, instead preferring to act as a conduit for ancient tales that they bring to life with a compelling and contemporary zest for story telling.

On record their glitches, samples and distinctive way of unspooling historical narratives capture the attention. The live iteration of the band is not a like-for-like facsimile of the recordings – instead these performances are imbued with frenetic energy and the duo has been known to expand to include more players to assist with bringing the songs to life.

They’re folk, but not as you may be thinking… The best way to approach Milkweed is with an open mind (something that seems to be intrinsic to the Roadburn community) and ideally with an eagerness to travel – back in time, into the future, and most certainly into sonic territories yet to be fully documented. To warm you up for their show at Roadburn, we highly recommend getting stuck into their latest full length, Remscéla.
