Our neighbours in Belgium have produced many a great heavy band over the years, and the latest of them to take to a Roadburn stage is set to be PRUILLIP. This sludge duo can be heard rumbling from over the border; their self-titled debut album was released at the tail end of 2023 and caught our ear with its bleak and abrasive communiqué; an infusion of melody comes via the reverb-drenched vocals but it only serves to add another layer of desolation.
Drawing influence from the likes of Earth, the duo of Louis Evrard (guitar) and Annelies Van Dinter (drums, vocals), have crafted an album that is low and slow in a languid, dreamy fashion, with just enough gut punching jabs to make sure you’re still paying attention. They describe the album as being centred around ‘visceral meditation’ – and it’s easy to float away on their dense layers of hypnotic rhythm and fuzz.
Whilst they may only have one album to their name so far, we see bright things on the horizon for Pruillip. Catch them at the Hall of Fame on Friday, 19 April.
