Scattered Purgatory have entered 2026 brandishing a new album – soon to be unleashed via Guruguru Brain. Recent singles give some clues to the world they’re building on Post Purgatory – from the dark and ominous track Diaspora which features Roadburn favourite Dis Fig, through to the mellifluous dreaminess of the most recent track Moonquake. It’s clear why Scattered Purgatory are regarded as one of the most exciting experimental bands to come out of Taiwan.
Pre-pandemic Scattered Purgatory set to work carving out a name for themselves on the live circuit, garnering critical acclaim along the way. Post Purgatory will be their first release since 2019; a renewed, reinvigorated incarnation of the band is emerging, more than ready to pick up where they left off – bringing their psychedelic offerings to the masses. Their new material offers both darkness and light; an impossibly featherlight touch coupled with crushing doomy riffs are deployed to devastating effect.
The band tells us: “We started as a drone metal band aiming one day to play at Roadburn festival, it means a lot to us to kick start our comeback EU/UK tour at one of our initial goals. We are looking forward to seeing you in Tilburg.”
As ones never keen to pass up the opportunity to be transported somewhere otherworldly, we’re thrilled to welcome Scattered Purgatory to Roadburn for the first time.
