You may count yourself amongst those of us who were left disappointed by the dissolution of Sprain. We here at Roadburn had no sooner confirmed their attendance at Roadburn 2024 than we got word of their imminent demise. Shearling rose from the ashes of Sprain serving as a “spiritual continuation” and offering plenty for anyone who can’t quite shake the latter’s The Lamb As Effigy from their consciousness.
Offering a gift in the form of debut album (presented as one continuous track) ‘Motherfucker, I am Both: “Amen” and “Hallelujah”… Shearling have delivered something that has the capacity to delight (or bemuse) fans of the avant-garde, of noise rock, of dissonant intensity. Comprising anguished yelps, angular compositions and a feral attitude, Shearling are here to demand your attention, one way or another.
Of their upcoming performance at Roadburn, Shearling comment: “Perhaps more so than any other modern festival, Roadburn bears the most diverse and thorough curation of experimental artists the world currently has to offer. We are honored to be included in the lineup this year!”
For our part, we are eagerly anticipating their arrival; word has reached us of uncompromisingly intense live performances. If their recorded output is any indicator of what’s in store, Shearling’s Roadburn debut is sure to be something unforgettable.
