Silver Godling is the name under which Emily McWilliams composes and releases her music. With piano as her primary instrument, Emily has woven a delicate crystalline world haunted by field recordings, embellished with euphonious vocals and crafted in her own singular vision. The completeness of her intuitive creativity extends to the visual presentation of Silver Godling; her releases are often accompanied by photobooks or other physical ephemera that enhances the audio experience.

Her classical background is the foundation upon which Emily has layered her experimental sounds. These experiments can take her into all manner of different directions; whilst a snappy genre descriptor may remain elusive Emily can comfortably traverse dark pop, electronic, and chamber music-esque sounds. Through her work, Emily explores the human condition, existential confusion, the chasm of grief, the ups and downs of her own psyche and much more.

Silver Godling’s recent release, Conversations With Henry, will be a central part of her Roadburn performance; an album that was composed during her dog’s decline from cancer. Featuring vocal loops and piano, the set will also feature selections from the yet-to-be-announced album that leans further towards her classical roots.

Emily comments: “When I was awarded the opportunity to perform at Roadburn in 2019 for three sets between Thou’s Artist in Residency and MJ Guider’s debut Roadburn performance, I was so overwhelmed by the beautiful experience that I suspect I disassociated for much of it. Returning to offer my solo music as Silver Godling is an absolute gift, one I am eager to embody and present. Roadburn has created a community of support, encouragement, and discovery, and I am honored to both contribute and experience.”
