Sir Richard Bishop is an evocative and highly skilled guitarist whose work can be heard across the vast discography of Sun City Girls as well as his extensive solo material. His latest release, Hillbilly Ragas is a collection of solo guitar compositions that manage to say something really quite extraordinary, all without a single word being uttered. He offers up an expression of the unspoken, and perhaps the – from time to time – the unspeakable.
Known for his on-stage improvisation, Sir Richard Bishop will bring his take on American Primitive to Roadburn this coming April. Describing his latest work as an “excursion into the dark woods”, he will be our guide through his repertoire – and where he leads, we shall follow.
Of his upcoming Roadburn performance, he tells us:
