The Keening performing Little Bird
SubRosa left quite an impression on us at Roadburn back in 2017, when they played two career defining sets that left us awestruck. And then they were gone. Rebecca Vernon’s distinctive voice and approach to music has found a new home within her new project THE KEENING. We’re delighted to announce that The Keening will make their European debut at Roadburn this coming April – and they’ll be playing their debut album, Little Bird, in its entirety.
Of their upcoming performance, Rebecca comments:
“It is a huge honor to be added to the bill for Roadburn 2024, and to have our first European show ever be at Roadburn as well. Walter and Becky have always been a huge support to SubRosa and me personally through the years and that has meant a lot. Both my experiences of playing Roadburn in the past with SubRosa were unforgettable, and I have no doubt that this one will be as well.”
Little Bird is a collection of six tracks that evoke dark winter days and deep introspection through its heavy folk and haunting contemplations. There are echoes of SubRosa’s sound here and there – evidently woven into Rebecca’s DNA (or vice versa) – but The Keening is a new project entirely, a fresh start – a new era. The live iteration features fellow musicians Billy Anderson, Andrea Morgan, Nate Carson and Christy Cather. Little Bird culminates with the 17+ minute closer, The Truth, which is ambitious in scope and delivers a final, devastating blow on its way out.
What better way to announce their live arrival in Europe than to perform this stunning album start to finish? We consider ourselves truly lucky, and we hope you’ll join us in welcoming Rebecca and her bandmates to Roadburn.
