Torpor will perform Rhetoric Of The Image in full at Roadburn 2020

Things are feeling particularly good in the UK underground at the moment. Well, in all honesty, things are feeling pretty bleak, gritty and – at times – downright harrowing, but it’s all a solid indicator that the scene is in rude health. With a broad and storied history of churning out some of the gnarliest and most captivating underground artists of the past few decades, Torpor are the latest group to be flying the flag for all that is heavy in the increasingly fractured United Kingdom.

Rhetoric Of The Image showcases Torpor’s confidence; lengthy post-metal tracks smoulder whilst shorter, more experimental cuts punctuate the album. The three piece will expand a little for Roadburn in order to do justice to the full fifty one minutes that make up Rhetoric Of The Image as they perform it in full for us at Roadburn.

With a theme of catharsis laying heavily over everything on the album, the weight of the unburdening often threatens to bend and bow the six legged beast that props up Torpor, and yet they press on with something of a steely resolve. The rewards are manifold; aside from the aural cleansing, repeat listens unveil more nuance and layers which elevates Torpor into the ‘must see’ category.

Of their performance at Roadburn, the band comments: “We are thrilled to be playing Rhetoric of the Image in full, and are working on creating a very special one-off performance! We feel very much at home within the eclectic lineup Roadburn curates, and it’s a dream to be part of it.”
