We’ve hosted Wiegedood in many iterations already; we’re proud to have given them space to explore the outer reaches of their creativity over the years. And now, for 2026 we’re absolutely thrilled to welcome them back to Roadburn to do even more of this exploratory, creative work at the Roadburn main stage.

Wiegedood & Bl!ndman sees our familiar Belgian friends team up with a section of the expansive Bl!ndman collective – in this incarnation comprising four world-class saxophonists –  to explore the world of drone. Inspired by the works of other pioneering artists in the field, this collaboration ventures into the unknown to present both new original work and reinterpretations of existing Wiegedood material.

As a collective, Bl!ndman has been pushing boundaries and refusing to be pigeonholed for over 35 years. Of this collaboration taking place at Roadburn, Bl!ndman’s artistic director Tomas Serrien commented:

“It is a great honour to perform at Roadburn as a saxophone quartet. It is the first time in our nearly 40-year existence that we are performing at such a unique festival that revolves around heavy music. The slogan “redefining heaviness” fits perfectly with this production that we made together with black metal band Wiegedood. The performance will be a unique interpretation of drone music, unlimited and spread across various genres. It is characterised by heavy, monotonous sounds that take the listener on an immersive auditory journey with arrangements from a wide range of influences, from Giacinto Scelsi to James Tenney and Earth and from Pandit Pran Nath to Éliane Radigue.”

Having already performed together – just the once – towards the end of last year, we’re truly honoured to be bringing this special collaboration to the Roadburn stage for 2026. Wiegedood commented:

“Since the start of this band we’ve always tried to push our own boundaries and never get comfortable doing what we’re doing. When Blindman approached us for this project this seemed like the perfect opportunity to explore new sonic possibilities, take a more abstract approach to our own songs and deep dive into the world of drone music. It’s been a wild ride preparing this piece with Blindman and their saxophone quartet. In the weeks leading up to the premiere we left no stone unturned while experimenting and the result is a mesmerizing sonic experience. Honored that Roadburn is once again giving us a stage to present this to all of you.”

Join us for another chance to see the tendrils of Wiegedood’s creative explorations wind ever further out into the unknown. As always, it’s a joy to be a part of these experimental odysseys.
