performing The Healer

Sumac are no strangers to the Roadburn stage, and we can’t wait to welcome them back to Tilburg for a triumphant return. For those who are not quite up to date, their latest release, The Healer, is a step up from Sumac’s already impressive body of work; a dense, enveloping experience that is easy to get lost in for the duration of its hour and a quarter run time. That’s exactly what we plan to do when Sumac takes to the main stage to play the album in full this coming April.

Bookended by two gargantuan slabs of Sumac’s finest work, The Healer is a meditative exploration of heaviness, best consumed as a whole. Less individual songs, and more separate movements that make up a whole, the four tracks on the album have been shaping up to be a contemplative heavy music fan’s best friend. Whilst the album is not always an easy listen, buried within its deepest, darkest crevices there are slivers of hope, shards of determination, rays of positivity – but you’ve got to get all the way in there to uncover them for yourself.

So, it is with enormous pride – and not a small amount of excitement – that we are preparing to welcome Sumac back to Roadburn for this special performance.
