Roadburn 2019 A-Z
April 5, 2019
A – Access
When you arrive at the 013 and switch your ticket for a wristband you can also pick up a programme booklet. In the centre pages there is a map that lays out where the venues are.
The ticket exchange at the 013 will be open on Wednesday night from 6pm to 11pm. We strongly advise you to pick up your wristband on Wednesday night if you’re already in town. It will reduce queues and speed up your access to the venues on Thursday. For the rest of the weekend the wristband exchange will be open as follows:
Thu: 11:00 – 00:00
Fri: 13:00 – 01:00
Sat: 13:00 – 23:00
Sun: 12:30 – 21:30
Please note: backpacks are not allowed into the venues – totebags and similar are okay. See L for info on lockers and luggage storage. Familiarise yourself with the info that’s relevant to you so you can let your hair down and have a good time without worrying about how you’ll be united with your bed at the end of the day.
B – Buses
There will be buses going in more than one direction, so check your final destination and read on…
Eindhoven Central Station – this is for those of you who bought tickets via Ticketmaster to get back to Eindhoven once the trains stop running.
Thu – Sun between 01:00 – 04:00 bus departs every 30 minutes, travelling time to Eindhoven Central Station approx 45 minutes.
The departure area for this ‘night bus’ is located at the Interpolis building, near the Tivoli Parking. Day tickets can be bought per day at the info point (in front of V39) and at the bus stop for € 12,50 (card payments only)
There is a shuttle bus to and from the Beekse Bergen jungalow park. The bus leaves from St. Josephstraat in front of De Nieuwe School, and does a round trip every 20 minutes from 13.15-18.00, and 23.30 – 03.00. On Sunday, the shuttle bus will start from 12.15 – we wouldn’t want any of you to miss out on that incredible Have A Nice Life set that starts at 13.50. A single ride will set you back €4, a 3 day ticket is €21 and a 4 day ticket is €28.
C – Cocktails & Craft Beer
If you fancy something to drink that’s a little outside the norm of the usual festival fayre, we have some treats in store for you.
You may already be familiar with the specially brewed Maalstroom beer (available at the Pit Stop on Saturday and from Bierbrigadier in Tilburg in limited numbers), but alongside that there will be a rotation of craft beers throughout the weekend. Koen from the aforementioned Bierbrigadier has handpicked over 40 beers that will make an appearance over the weekend, but when they’re gone, they’re really gone. There will also be beer on sale all weekend from local breweries LOC and Kraftbier. The Craft Beer Bar is located at the Pit Stop.
If you’d prefer something better suited to a little paper umbrella as decoration… head to the 013 basement bar which will be christened Mix Bar from 8pm each evening for an assortment of cocktails. The bar will be open til 3am each night (1am on Sunday) for you to get your fix of fruity delights! For one night only, Old Man Gloom powerhouse, Santos Montano will be showing his face and sipping his own Secret Santos cocktail on Saturday night at 10.30pm… don’t say we didn’t warn you.
D – Drinking & eating
We’ve laid on a whole host of different food options around the Roadburn venues this year. This year, you can find food trucks inside and outside the Pit Stop as well as the usual stalls outside the 013. Pretty much every taste or dietary requirement is taken care of by the food trucks so you’re sure to find something to suit. Not to mention all the bars and cafes that Tilburg has to offer. You’ll not go hungry!
E – Exhibitions
As well as the return of Full Bleed we will also have exhibitions from our poster artist, Maarten Donders, and up and coming photographer Teddie Taylor. Plus we will have paintings by Emma Ruth Rundle and Marissa Nadler on display in the Pit Stop. Full Bleed will have art for sale, but the rest of the exhibitions are look-but-don’t-touch, however looking is a treat all of its own!
F – First Timers
If you are attending Roadburn for the first time or if you’re traveling alone, you are very welcome to join us for a drink before the festival kicks off properly. From 2pm on Thursday at the 013 basement bar, we will be hosting a little get together for those on their own, and coming for the first time. It’s a little welcome to help you get your bearings. All you need to do is sign up here (so we can keep track of numbers) – and then show up on the day!
G – (The) Grass Company
Whether you’re from the Netherlands or abroad, Roadburn visitors who are over the age of 18 (and with valid ID) can enter Tilburg’s coffee shops and purchase cannabis products. The Grass Company is one of the bigger outlets in the city of Tilburg, and the first one you’ll come across when making your way from the station. We encourage anybody who chooses to partake, to do so responsibly, of course!
H – Hall of Fame
Our smallest venue is home to some of the festival’s biggest gems! Don’t forget to head here to check out both the Holy Roar records show case and the Exile on Mainstream show case… plus a whole host of other bands that are more than ready to blow your minds! This venue may be small, but it sure is mighty!
I – Ignition
This year our pre-show party will take place at the Green Room inside the 013, on Wednesday 10 April. It’s free, so if you have local pals – bring them along! We definitely advise you to pick up your wristband on Wednesday night if you’re around already, but it’s not compulsory to do so to gain entry to the party! Great Grief, Temple Fang and Hellripper will get your Roadburn started with a bang!
Running order:
Temple Fang – 20.30 – 21.30
Great Grief – 22.00 – 22.40
Hellripper – 23.10 -23.50
J – Join Us
If you haven’t yet joined the Roadburners Facebook group – please do. It’s a great place to share your experiences, arrange meet ups and stay in contact with both us and your fellow Roadburners during the festival. Click HERE to join. You can also find us on Twitter, Instagram and the main Facebook page.
K – Kickstarter Games
Throughout the weekend you can indulge your tabletop gaming urges whenever you desire! Thanks to our friends at Kickstarter, there will be a dedicated gaming area in the Pit Stop which will peak at 1pm on Saturday when there will be something of a games extravaganza happening! The rest of the time, feel free to pull up a chair and have a rummage through the Kickstarter cabinet of wonder to see what games are already there – or feel free to bring your own deck!
L – Lockers & luggage
There are multiple options for storing merch and personal items throughout the festival. Work out which suits you best, based on what it is you need to stash away.
There are lockers at the 013 venue and Hall of Fame which will be perfect for coats and small bags. These cost €2 – and if you need to open the door multiple times you can get a new token from the staff at the venues so you don’t have to pay each time.
The only downside to these lockers is that if you’re buying vinyl or posters, it’s not gonna fit. But we have planned for this! There is designated merch storage at the Koepelhal – right where all the merch is for sale! Handy, right? €1 will get you sorted here.
And if you have larger rucksacks, suitcases, or other bulky items that aren’t allowed in the venues, we can store them too! This may be particularly useful if you’re traveling to/from Roadburn and don’t have time to leave your stuff elsewhere. The Large Item Storage will be in a room at the parking garage right up the street from the 013. Follow the signs and stash your BIG stuff for €5.
(continued below)

M – Munten (tokens)
You can buy tokens (munten) from the machines located in the foyer of the 013 venue, Het Patronaat, Hall of Fame, Pit Stop, and from the information desk. These can be exchanged for food and drink in the official Roadburn venues only and the food / drink stalls immediately outside the 013 and Koepelhal and inside the Pit Stop.
We know only too well how tempting it is to stay sat in a bar until 5 minutes before a band starts – but allow time to grab tokens before the show starts, so you’re not rushing around at the last minute. Please note: remaining tokens cannot be returned for money.
N – New music (listening sessions)
This year, we’re hosting a whole bunch of listening sessions for killer new records! Every evening in the Mix Bar you will be able to hear new tunes from the likes of Heilung, GosT, Valborg and more! Check the timetable in your booklet for all the details!
O – Online playlist
There are over 100 bands playing Roadburn. We don’t expect you to necessarily know them all, but why not check out as many as possible? There will be a test afterwards… only kidding, but if you give our official playlist a spin you may find yet more bands to add to your “must watch” schedule.
P – Photography
Unless you are attending as professional press and have been granted a photo pass then you won’t be able to bring a camera with a lens of over 35mm. However, any photos that you do take with your phone / non-professional camera we’d love to see, so please tag us or use the hashtag #RB19 on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram so we can see what your weekend looked like.
Q – Questions
We’re always here to answer your questions but please be aware that there may be a bit of a delay in getting back to you online during the festival itself. If your question is urgent or if you feel unsafe please speak to a member of staff or security at any of the venues. If your question is not life or death feel free to message us or tweet us whenever you like! Note that there is an info point outside the V39 – there will be someone around to answer your questions when you need them!
R – Recyclable cups
You asked – we delivered. This year you will be able to purchase a re-useable cup to drink your beer from. It will cost you one token, and each time you return to the bar hand it to the bartender who will wash and reuse it (at busy time they may get you a new cup and wash the other one once things are quieter) – and at the end of the festival you can take it home with you. We hope this will reduce the waste throughout the festival, as well as reduce the noise during quieter sets. If you would prefer to use the disposable cups, they will remain available from the bars.
S – Side Programme
Every year we strive to bring you just a little bit extra; something to enhance your Roadburn experience in a new and exciting way. The side programme is a big part of this – we work hard to bring you interesting insights, informed debate and a peek behind the scenes at what makes some of your favourite artists tick. So, once again, we’ve got a jam-packed side programme with panel discussions, Q&As, and listening sessions. Why not indulge in a change of pace whilst you’re with us? Listen to Tom G. Warrior talk, learn about the intricacies of vinyl production, and so much more – check the schedule for full info.
T – Triptykon & More
Last year we started something of a new Roadburn tradition by commissioning artists to create and perform music exclusively at the festival. This year, we have three such performances. Starting on Thursday with Molasses, things will get off to an emotional beginning. On Friday the Celtic Frost/Triptykon Requiem will be performed with the award-winning Dutch Metropole Orkest. On Saturday, Het Patronaat will be given over to a day of Dutch black metal, culminating in the special Maalstroom commissioned performance. For the most part we have no idea what to expect – and that’s the beauty of these projects; they unfurl before our eyes as we experience them for the first time together. Don’t miss out on these, they’re all three set to be incredibly special.
U – Urban Campsite
Located just fifteen minutes walk from the 013 venue, the Urban campsite is the ideal, affordable way to sleep at Roadburn! At the time of writing there is still some space for campers! Please note: This year the urban campsite will be near last year’s location – Oisterwijksebaan, 5018 TG Tilburg. The Urban campsite opens at noon on Wednesday. There will be a complimentary shuttle service to / from the train station so you don’t have to carry all your luggage through the city when you arrive. The bus leaves the back of the train station (there will be volunteers and signing to point you in the right direction) on Wednesday (noon – 9pm), Thursday (9am – 7pm), Sunday (10am – 3pm) and Monday (9am – 1pm).
V – Volunteers & Venue Capacities
Did you know that a lot of the people working at Roadburn are volunteers? The person pouring your beer, selling you tokens or scanning your ticket is very likely to be one of our wonderful team of volunteers! Give them a hi-five and show them some love – Roadburn relies on their hard work.
A quick note about venue capacities… we have worked hard to eliminate lines for popular shows. We have introduced new venues, and we labour over the running order every year. Occasionally we’re still taken by surprise, but we thought we would let you know the venue capacities, so you can make an informed choice about the shows you attend and when you turn up for them.
Main stage – 3,000
Green Room – 700
Het Patronaat – 650
Koepelhal – 1500
Hall of Fame – 250
W – Wayfarer & Entropia
Wayfarer and Entropia will be performing on Friday 12 April at Little Devil Bar! Entropia will play around 9pm, followed by Wayfarer at approx.10.30pm. Little Devil is Tilburg’s premier rock bar, located at Stationsstraat 27, and has a 150 cap.
X – Xeroxed Zines – Weirdo Canyon Dispatch
Don’t forget to pick up your copy of our daily zine! Available Thursday through to Sunday from the entrance to the 013 venue, at the Pit Stop – and anywhere else you can find one, but when they’re gone, they’re gone (although you can still check them out online at roadburn.com)! Our crack team of highly regarded writers, lead by the amicable JJ Koczan and Lee Edwards, slave through the night to produce the Weirdo Canyon Dispatch, so check it out and relive the previous day’s glories!
Y – Your Roadburn
As ever, we love to see and hear about your Roadburn experiences. Please tag us in pictures or use the hashtag #RB19, give us feedback on the event page or the Roadburners facebook group and tweet us about your favourite performances. We welcome feedback (see R!) so let us know what’s on your mind.
Z – Zzzz… or not
Once the bands are done, you may well want to head straight to bed. But if there’s still juice left in your batteries, then party on into the night with us – this time with double the party vibes.
Thursday
00.30 – 03.00 – 013 Foyer Bar: Babylon Doom Cult.

Second commissioned project for 2019 announced; MOLASSES will debut at Roadburn
November 27, 2018
MOLASSES
It’s time to redefine a bond that never ceased to ascend. Loosen the valve and let the blood flow!
A little over ten years since The Devil’s Blood made its live debut at Roadburn Festival, something was stirring once again in the souls of many of those involved in pulling that first performance together. Of course, the intervening years contain enough life lived to fill several tomes, much of which is already documented elsewhere, whilst many chapters remain sealed.
After The Devil’s Blood ceased to be, Selim Lemouchi went on to form Selim Lemouchi & His Enemies, releasing the spellbinding album Earth Air Spirit Water Fire album. Shortly after the release of the album, Selim started to cancel shows, rejecting interviews and metaphorically closed the door to the outside world. He died by suicide on March 4, 2014. Six weeks later, Selim Lemouchi & His Enemies played their final show at Roadburn Festival, assembled in a semi-circle with Selim’s spirit palpable at the centre. Those that knew him would have sworn to his presence, those that admired him recognised the imprint of his life’s work.
The last track on Earth Air Spirit Water Fire, titled Molasses, has lent its name to a burgeoning project. An ensemble bound together by a unwavering thread, a shared bond and a definitive presence in their lives. The fragmented pieces of The Devil’s Blood are piecing themselves back together, bereft of a very specific physical form but enriched by his spiritual company.
Farida Lemouchi, Oeds Beydals, Job van de Zande, and Ron van Herpen – all former members of The Devil’s Blood – are joined by kindred spirits, Marcel van de Vondervoort of Astrosoniq, Bob Hogenelst (Birth of Joy) and Matthijs Stronks (Donnerwetter) to form MOLASSES.
Read more about MOLASSES HERE.
Farida Lemouchi spoke to Louise Brown for Decibel magazine about the origins of MOLASSES. Read the whole interview HERE.
MOLASSES is a commissioned project made possible thanks to the continued support of Brabant C and City of Tilburg.

Commissioned Music Roadburn 2019: Triptykon/Metropole Orkest: Requiem
November 2, 2018
Triptykon will return to Roadburn Festival in 2019 to perform the complete Celtic Frost/Triptykon three part Requiem, complete with orchestral accompaniment.
Having previously performed at the festival in 2010 and 2014 with Triptykon, and taken on curatorship duties for the former (selecting bands such as Sarke and Thorr’s Hammer to perform); it’s our pleasure to welcome Tom G. Warrior back to Roadburn on Friday, April 12.
The first part of the three-part Requiem appeared on Celtic Frost‘s Into The Pandemonium, and was titled Rex Irae. The third part, titled Winter was brought to life on the Celtic Frost album Monotheist in 2006, and until now, the missing second part has remained incomplete.
Tom explains:
“The intention to finish the full Requiem remained with me. I was going to do it one distant day with Triptykon, the group I formed to continue to pursue the path I began in Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. It was 2018, yet again 16 years after I last worked on the Requiem, when Walter Hoeijmakers, founder of the legendary Roadburn Festival and one of my most beloved friends, contacted me to propose Roadburn as the venue to perform, at long last, the finished Requiem.
Walter and his team very kindly provided for the resources necessary for such a substantial undertaking, and so, at 54 by now, I found myself commencing work on the second and thus final part of the Requiem this year.
The three parts of the Requiem will therefore be performed by Triptykon at Roadburn 2019, with full classical orchestration, congregated specifically for this occasion by Florian Magnus Maier, who is our esteemed classical collaborator and arranger in this project, and whose patience with me appears to be limitless. We feel very proud and deeply honoured to be joined in this endeavour by the renowned Dutch Metropole Orkest.”
Click here to read more from Tom about the history of the Requiem.
Celtic Frost/ Triptykon Requiem, as performed exclusively by Triptkyon and the Dutch Metropole Orkest (orchestra) at Roadburn 2019:
Rex Irae
Requiem, Chapter One: Overture – Fourth Incarnation
Grave Eternal
Requiem, Chapter Two: Transition
Winter
Requiem, Chapter Three: Finale – Ninth Incarnation
The Requiem will be performed with the world renowned, Grammy-award winning, Dutch Metropole Orkest.
2018 marked the first occasion when Roadburn commissioned artists to create music especially for the festival, with Waste of Space Orchestra and Vánagandr: Sól án varma both delivering spellbinding performances to enraptured audiences. The commissioning of the Celtic Frost/Triptykon Requiem is possible due to the continued support of Brabant C and City of Tilburg.
Safari Resort Beekse Bergen during Roadburn 2019
October 11, 2018
Safari Resort Beekse Bergen
For 2019, in addition to the jungalows familiar to campers every year, Safari Resort Beekse Bergen – which is located just outside Tilburg – is glad to offer Roadburn attendees the chance to stay in luxurious cabins on the zoo grounds during the festival.
All the info is HERE.
Up to eight Roadburners can share a cabin from Wednesday through Sunday nights (jungalows are still for the whole week) and be assured that Taxi Korthout will run a shuttle bus between Safari Resort Beekse Bergen and the festival, so you won’t miss a thing.
We encourage everyone to partner up with your fellow fest-goers and share cabins, and whether you’re coming with a group of friends or meeting people for the first time, we know that soon the Beekse Bergen cabins will become a great part of your Roadburn experience.

Eindhoven
Eindhoven is just a short train ride away from Tilburg, and has a huge array of hotels of all different kinds – from luxury to budget. A large number of these hotels are located very close to the train station, so if you time it right, you could go from bed to watching a band at the Koepelhal in a little over half an hour!
Trains run approximately every 15 minutes throughout the day and take 22 minutes to get to Tilburg. Of course there’s a plenty to do, eat and drink in Eindhoven itself, and there’s the added benefit of the close proximity to Eindhoven airport for those traveling in from around Europe.
We already have quite some Roadburners who make the trip to Tilburg every day during Roadburn but this time we’re making it even easier. As the train doesn’t run all night, when there is no train available we will provide a late night shuttle bus running between the two cities once an hour until 4am (3am on the Sunday night/Monday morning) to ensure you get back to your hotel without missing out on any of the fun of the festival.
The Valk Hotel
The Valk hotel will offer hotel accommodation in Tilburg – rooms are on sale from tomorrow. Bookings can be made by emailing: sales (at) tilburg (dot) valk (dot) nl and you must include the reference GF759 in your email subject. Read more about the hotel HERE.

There will be a private shuttle bus running between the Beekse Bergen and the festival site for a small fee – payable on board the bus. For more information on the Beekse Bergen and to book, click HERE.
We know it can be overwhelming to figure out which option will suit you best – so hopefully the above information gives you enough choices to feel comfortable during your time at Roadburn! With the improved links to Eindhoven, plus the urban campsite we know that there will be plenty of room for everybody!

Roadburn Essential Sounds 15.6.18 (by Tomas Lindberg)
June 15, 2018
When we realised that we needed someone to take charge of our weekly playlist due to coinciding vacations, we knew there were several people we could turn to for help. One that stand out for his insatiable appetite for new music would be perfect, someone who can present a little slice of their current audio passions with the same love and attention to detail that we put into the playlists. So, we asked Tomas Lindberg to step in this week.
He’s known to most as the frontman for At The Gates and Disfear, but also known to some as the enthusiastic Swedish man who is down the front, banging his head and raising his fists at many a Roadburn performance.
So, without further ado, here is a list of Tompa’s current top tunes.
Uran – Emp (Höga Nord Rekords)
Henrik Palm – Missoula (Fetish Records)
Craft – Darkness Falls (Season Of Mist)
Black Salvation – In a Casket’s Ride (Relapse Records)
The Skull Defekts – A Brief History Of Rhythm, Dub, Life And Death (Thrill Jockey)
Robocobra Quartet – Short Stretch Of Day (Abbreviated Records)
Revevorum Ib Malacht – Where Escapism Ends (AnnapurnA)
Dungen & Woods – Loop (Kemado Records)
Agrimonia – A World Unseen (Southern Lord)
The Excorsist – Pusher (Höga Nord Rekords)
