Believe it or not, Acid Mothers Temple have only brushed past Roadburn once – and even then, not quite in their full form. Back in 2008, two of the Japanese band’s members teamed up with Mani Neumeier of Guru Guru as Acid Mothers Guru, creating a legendary, one-off main-stage freakout. As unforgettable as that moment was for everyone who attended, we’ve long felt the absence of a proper Acid Mothers Temple performance in our history. In 2026, we’re finally putting that right.

For over 30 years, under the visionary guidance of guitarist Kawabata Makoto, Acid Mothers Temple have been a singular force in psychedelic music: exploratory, improvisational, and gloriously unpredictable. So simply inviting them for a simple set didn’t feel like enough. Instead, we’re welcoming them as Artists in Residence, with three unique performances unfolding across three festival days. Together, these shows will trace the band’s past, illuminate their present, and venture boldly into their future.

In a truly special twist, all three performances will feature the return of Cotton Casino, a founding member whose unmistakable voice defined the band’s earliest incarnation. She hasn’t performed with Acid Mothers Temple since 2004, making this reunion as historic as it is heartfelt.

The Past: A reimagining of the band’s formative years, shaped by Cotton Casino’s essential presence.

The Present: A showcase of the current lineup’s raw, refined, and explosive energy.

The Future: Their most adventurous set of the residency – a glimpse into the cosmic possibilities still ahead.

We’re over the moon to finally cement the bond we’ve long shared with Acid Mothers Temple, a connection that always felt destined. Roadburn 2026 will be the moment it fully comes to life.
