It’s been another busy week for Roadburn 2027! Alongside day tickets and two-day tickets going on sale, we’ve added four more names to the line-up: Iron Lung, Steröid, Rhododendron and Parts & Labor.

Four very different acts, each bringing something of their own to the mix – from uncompromising DIY powerviolence to full-throttle rock’n’roll, adventurous experimentation and a glorious burst of creative energy. It’s all part of the picture taking shape for next April, and there’s plenty more to come.

Alongside regular day tickets, you’ll be able to choose from three two-day combinations: Thursday and Friday, Friday and Saturday, or Saturday and Sunday.

Hailing from Tijuana, Mexico, Violencia are the sonic embodiment that their name suggests. Leaning into powerviolence, hardcore and great big chugging riffs, the impact of a little time in their company is, as one would hope, like taking a punch full in the face. So, with that in mind, we’re delighted to be welcoming them to Roadburn in April. 

With their lyrics sung in Spanish, even for the monolingual or non-Spanish speakers amongst us, their intentions are pretty overt. With song titles that translate to the likes of The Agony of Living, Polarised World and Success is the Drug of the Future, it’s safe to say that they deal with the existential terror of navigating the vagaries of modern life – and they’re far from thrilled about it. All that rage and turmoil is bundled up and spat out by way of their short, sharp, blistering songs. We have every expectation that Violencia will deliver their distinctive, raw and honest take on hardcore in a way that truly leaves its mark on Tilburg.

The band comments: “We love the Netherlands, it is always mind blowing to be able to travel and play there. As a band from Mexico, the idea of being part of the world wide festivals just seemed very far away, so we are very excited to play Roadburn and meet the scene surrounding it”

Long-time Roadburners will remember the Afterburner: a separate but related event that kept things going on the Sunday after the main Roadburn programme. As Roadburn evolved into the four-day festival we know today, the Afterburner became part of our history – but the idea of creating something distinct around the festival never left us. Over the years, we started dreaming about turning that idea around: what if we created something special to kick it all off?

In collaboration with 013, we’re proud to co-host The Grand Opening of Roadburn 2027 with a 16 Horsepower performance at 013.

When 013 had the opportunity to book 16 Horsepower on the Wednesday before Roadburn, we simply had to jump at the chance to join forces to make something special happen. 16 Horsepower have been at the top of our wishlists for as long as we can remember, their music pivotal to so much of what the festival has grown to embrace. While our paths with David Eugene Edwards have crossed several times – through Wovenhand appearances, including that legendary 2011 show, and his unforgettable solo performance – 16 Horsepower themselves have always remained out of reach. To finally welcome them to Tilburg under the Roadburn banner feels like a big piece of our own history falling into place. A long-held dream, finally coming true.

This show requires a separate ticket. Because of the close connection between 013 and Roadburn, we’re happy to make sure our community gets the first opportunity to be part of this special night. At the same time, The Spark will be happening at the Next Stage as always – free and open to everyone, whether you have a Roadburn ticket or not. It remains our traditional Wednesday gathering, when our community starts to arrive and come together in Tilburg. Whether you’re rocking out to 16 Horsepower or getting your party started at The Spark, we’ll see you in Tilburg on Wednesday, April 14. Wherever you are, that’s where Roadburn 2027 begins.

These ideas sit at the very heart of Roadburn, shaping what we do and where we go next. When Malleus returned to the festival earlier this year, bringing their incredible body of work to Tilburg for a special exhibition, something immediately clicked into place. Watching the connection between their art and our community come alive again felt like an old bond reinvigorated. So, we invited Malleus to bring their own curiosity and creativity to help connect the Roadburn community in 2027.

Today, we’re revealing the first part of Malleus’ artwork for Roadburn 2027: the opening panel of a triptych that will gradually unfold. Across three pieces, their world and ours will weave around each other like two merging cosmic entities. Two creative universes, a shared history and the same instinct to keep exploring beyond boundaries.

Formed in Italy by artists Lu, Urlo and Poia – with the latter two also known as members of Ufomammut – Malleus have developed an unmistakable visual language through illustration, screen printing, poster art and music. Their relationship with Roadburn stretches back many years, including creating the main poster artwork for Roadburn 2009. This new collaboration feels both like a continuation of that history and the start of a new chapter.

There’s much more of Malleus’ vision still to reveal – and much more of Roadburn 2027 waiting to take shape.

While diving into the Brazilian underground as part of our ongoing global explorations, we came across Antropoceno – the incredible project of Lua Viana – and immediately fell in love with what we heard. Antropoceno draws on Brazilian musical traditions, mixing them with experimental rock and metal. Their music explores our relationship with the Earth, rejecting the idea of nature as merely a resource and looking towards ancestral knowledge for another way forward. Now, as they prepare for their first ever journey to Europe, we’re so excited to welcome them that we simply couldn’t wait to share the news with you: Antropoceno will perform the remarkable No Ritmo da Terra in its entirety at Roadburn 2027.

Lua comments: “We’re so excited to play at Roadburn! Having a European tour by itself is a dream coming true, but it’s even better to have the opportunity to play at a festival that’s open to the environmentalist message and the multicultural fusion approach that comes with Antropoceno experimentations. It’s so important to have intercultural contact based on alterity and respect. I can’t wait to play Brazilian rhythms in Roadburn and show to our fans in Europe how the legacy of the Anthropophagic Movement can be felt to this day in all Latin America, and how rich and multifaceted our culture is.”
